Roasting experiment with a quality guarantee
When fine-tuning new roast profiles in our roastery, we often create coffees that are surprisingly good—even if they don’t meet our final target profile 100%. The reason for the lower price is usually a slightly missed roast curve. The coffee might be a bit lighter or darker than planned—but it remains a high-quality, pleasantly drinkable coffee.
Specialty Coffee quality
Made from high-quality raw coffee — the same standard as with all Nine Fine coffees.
Every batch is different
Origin, roast level, and flavor change. You never know exactly what you're getting — but you can always rely on the quality.
All preparation methods
Suitable for portafilter machines, fully automatic machines, and filter coffee — whatever comes your way.
Why cheaper?
A test roast is not reject material — it is an experiment that did not quite hit the mark. The green coffee is identical to our regular coffees. The difference: the roast profile deviates slightly. That does not justify full price — but it also does not justify waste.
Lower price, same quality. The green coffee is the same, the farmers are paid the same. It’s just that not everything went according to plan during the roasting process.
- Same raw coffee as regular Nine Fine coffees
- Freshly roasted
- Full transparency regarding roast date
- No loss of quality — just a missed roast profile
Who is this coffee ideal for?
As a daily brew
For daily enjoyment, there is no need to compromise on quality—only on price. The Test Roast is the same green coffee, the same level of care, simply more affordable.
For heavy drinkers
Three cups a day? Four? The Test Roast is for everyone who drinks a lot and doesn't want to compromise on quality — at a price that makes it easy.
For the curious & explorers
Every batch is a different coffee. Different origin, different roast, different profile. Those who come without fixed expectations will almost always be surprised — in a good way.
Each batch is a piece of honesty.
Test roasts happen when I try out a profile and don't quite hit the mark. The coffee is still good — often even surprisingly so. I’m sharing it because it would be a waste to throw it away. And because I believe that transparency should be part of our craft. You get the same green coffee, the same care — just with a different roast curve than planned.
Arises when Jovi tests new profiles
The Test Roast is not a permanent product—it is created seasonally when we try out new roast profiles and origins. Jovi always has something in the works. Sometimes an Ethiopian, sometimes a Brazilian, sometimes something completely different.
